Tire & Wheel Care Tips
Expert advice to keep your tires safe and lasting longer
Tire Rotation
Rotate your tires every 8,000-12,000 km to ensure even wear. Front tires wear faster due to steering, so regular rotation extends the life of your full set.
When to Replace Tires
Check tread depth with a coin test β insert a quarter with the caribou facing down. If you can see the top of the caribou's head, it's time for new tires. Also watch for cracks, bulges, or uneven wear.
Tire Pressure
Check tire pressure monthly and before long trips. Correct PSI is on a sticker inside your driver's door. Under-inflated tires waste fuel and wear unevenly; over-inflated tires reduce grip.
Winter Tire Timing
Install winter tires when temperatures consistently drop below 7Β°C (usually mid-October in Ontario). Switch back to all-seasons when spring temperatures stay above 7Β°C. Driving on winter tires in summer wears them out fast.
Wheel Care
Clean your wheels regularly to prevent brake dust buildup and corrosion. Use a pH-neutral wheel cleaner β harsh chemicals can damage the finish. Touch up curb rash promptly to prevent rust.
Winter vs All-Season Tires
All-season tires are NOT winter tires. Winter tires use softer rubber compounds that stay flexible below 7Β°C, providing dramatically better grip on snow and ice. In Ontario, winter tires can also save you on insurance.
